CMCM: Then and now
Our beginnings
The CMCM you know today was founded under the name "Caisse Chirurgicale" during the General Assembly of the National Federation of Luxembourgish Health Mutuals (Fédération Nationale de la Mutualité Luxembourgeoise - FNML), held on 15 April 1956 at the E.MS. Hotel in Luxembourg City.
The first Board of Directors consisted of:
Carlo THILL, Chairman; Ernest FEYEREISEN, Eugène HERRIGES, Jean HOFFMANN, Jean MULLER, Joseph SCHMIT and Nicolas SCHOLLER, Board Members.
At its inception, the "Caisse Chirurgicale" had 2,614 members. Thanks to the support and experience of the French mutual movement, the organisation was able to get off to a rapid start, and its first statutes were officially approved as early as 17 April 1956.
The next chapter of our story
The benefits offered did not fully meet everyone's needs. To address what was perhaps the most significant gap, a "Caisse Dentaire" was established on 7 April 1963.
On 1 January 1976, the "Caisse Chirurgicale" and the "Caisse Dentaire" merged to form the "Caisse Médico-Chirurgicale Mutualiste".
On 1 January 2016, the "Caisse Médico-Chirurgicale Mutualiste" was renamed "Caisse Médico-Complémentaire Mutualiste" to reflect the fact that its benefits extend beyond purely surgical procedures.

Founding assembly of the "Caisse Chirurgicale" at the E.M.S. Hotel

Creation of the "Caisse Dentaire", expanding the benefits available to members.

1966
Relocation of the head office to 2 Place de Paris in Luxembourg, providing more spacious premises.

1975
Creation of CMCM-Assistance, originally launched under the name “Heureuses Vacances”, and relocation of the head office to 9 Rue du Commerce in Luxembourg.

1976
Merger of the "Caisse Chirurgicale" and the "Caisse Dentaire", giving rise to the "Caisse Médico-Chirurgicale Mutualiste".

1991
Introduction of the optional coverage Prestaplus.

2001
Opening of new offices at 49 Rue de Strasbourg in Luxembourg.

2010
Introduction of the optional coverage Denta & Optiplus.

2015
Strategic rebranding with a modernised logo and a new name: "Caisse Médico-Complémentaire Mutualiste" (CMCM).

2021
Establishment of the new modern head office at 32–34 Rue de Hollerich in Luxembourg.

CMCM celebrates its 70th anniversary.
