Become a member of CMCM
You may benefit from CMCM benefits once the applicable waiting period has passed. Waiting periods vary depending on the coverage selected:
RÉGIME COMMUN: 3-month waiting period, except for CMCM-Assistance, which has NO waiting period
PRESTAPLUS: 3-month waiting period
DENTA & OPTIPLUS: 3-month waiting period
The waiting period is reduced to 0 months if the member was covered by another supplementary health insurance for at least 12 months before joining CMCM.
The CNS and the CMCM play important roles in Luxembourg’s healthcare system.
The CNS (Caisse Nationale de Santé) is Luxembourg’s statutory and compulsory health insurance fund. It provides healthcare benefits and reimburses healthcare costs in accordance with legal provisions and social security reimbursement rates.
The CMCM (Caisse Médico-Complémentaire Mutualiste) is a non-profit health mutual. In accordance with its statutes, its purpose is to provide financial support to its members for healthcare costs that are not covered by compulsory health insurance. It therefore complements the benefits provided by the CNS and offers additional healthcare coverage.
A health mutual is a non-profit organisation founded on the principle of solidarity, helping its members meet healthcare costs. Unlike traditional supplementary health insurance, it operates on a mutual support model: members’ contributions are pooled into a common fund that provides financial assistance to those facing medical costs.
Yes, provided that you are covered by a recognised compulsory health insurance fund. You may become a member if you are affiliated with a Luxembourg health insurance fund, a health insurance institution governed by the legal scheme of a bordering country (or an equivalent fund), or a statutory health insurance fund in a neighbouring country.
The CMCM provides benefits exclusively as a complement to such compulsory coverage and never as a substitute for it.
CMCM membership strengthens your healthcare protection through supplementary coverage designed to meet everyday needs. It is particularly beneficial for families, as it allows children and a partner or spouse to be coaffiliated under certain conditions at no additional cost.
It is also well suited to anyone seeking enhanced financial support for healthcare expenses, hospitalisation costs, or unforeseen medical events that may have a financial impact.
No, the CMCM’s statutes do not require a medical questionnaire when applying for membership. Admission is based on administrative criteria (affiliation with a recognised health insurance fund, place of residence, etc.) rather than on an individual’s state of health.
There is no age limit for joining the CMCM. Any person who meets the membership eligibility requirements may become a member, regardless of age.
However, certain specific provisions may apply depending on the member’s status, particularly in the case of coaffiliated children. Once they reach the age limit for coaffiliation, they may continue to benefit from CMCM coverage by becoming main members in their own right.
Managing my membership
If you have completed your studies and/or are no longer coaffiliated under your parents’ health insurance fund:
In this case, you must join CMCM in your own name rather than remain coaffiliated under your parents.
If you join CMCM within 12 months, no waiting period will apply. In addition, if you are single and under the age of 30, you will benefit from a 10% reduction on your contribution.
If you have completed your studies but are still covered by your parents’ health insurance fund:
You will remain covered by the CMCM as a comember for as long as this coverage is maintained.
Simply send us a certificate of coinsurance issued by your health insurance fund (e.g. CNS).
In the event of a new membership application, the waiting period may be waived for members who have been covered by a recognised complementary health insurance during the 12 months preceding their affiliation with CMCM.
This exemption is granted for coverage equivalent to that previously held, upon presentation of a certificate confirming continuity of coverage and the benefits concerned.
It may be refused to members readmitted after termination due to non-payment of contributions or exclusion for fraudulent behaviour.
Any cancellation of membership or of the optional coverages PRESTAPLUS and/or DENTA & OPTIPLUS must be justified and sent by registered post before 31 December of the current year.
The cancellation of a membership or optional coverage applies to all members included in the same affiliation. Please note that any contributions already due remain payable.
The cancellation will take effect on 1 January of the year following the request.
You can add an optional coverage directly online or download the relevant application form and return it to us duly completed and signed. You can also complete this process at our Luxembourg-Gare office or by visiting our mobile office (CMCM on Tour).

Yes, your CMCM affiliation can be adjusted according to changes in your circumstances and needs. In particular, you may change your coverage (adding or removing optional coverage such as PRESTAPLUS or DENTA & OPTIPLUS), your family situation (adding or removing comembers), or your status (e.g. changing from a comember to a main member).
However, these changes remain subject to the conditions set out in our statutes (deadlines, waiting periods, contributions, etc.).

Changes in personal circumstances
Simply send us a copy of the birth certificate via our myCMCM app, by e-mail to affiliation@cmcm.lu, or by post to: CMCM – L-2971 Luxembourg.
From the date of birth, the new member will benefit from the same benefits as the main member, at no additional cost.
Until the divorce has been finalised or the civil partnership (PACS) has been officially dissolved, the member remains covered by the membership. A comember therefore cannot be removed from the membership by the main member before the divorce has been officially finalised or the civil partnership (PACS) has been officially dissolved.
Simply send us a copy of the certificate confirming the divorce or the dissolution of the civil partnership via the myCMCM app, by e-mail to affiliation@cmcm.lu, or by post to: CMCM, L-2971 Luxembourg.
Following the divorce or dissolution of the civil partnership, the affiliation remains attached to the main member.
If the comember wishes to continue benefiting from CMCM coverage, they have 12 months to join in their own name. In this case, no waiting period will apply, and they will benefit from a preferential contribution. The contribution for the current year will be waived, except for the annual supplementary contribution (Contribution Annuelle Supplémentaire – CAS).
Please note that during this transitional period, the comember is no longer covered by the CMCM.
Simply send us a copy of the death certificate via our myCMCM app, by e-mail to affiliation@cmcm.lu, or by post to: CMCM – L-2971 Luxembourg.
If the death concerns the main member, the affiliation is automatically transferred to the comember, with no waiting period or additional costs.
Simply request a new card by calling +352 49 94 45 300, via our myCMCM app, or by e-mail to affiliation@cmcm.lu, stating your name, address, phone number and, if possible, your identification number.
Simply send us a copy of the marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate (PACS) via our myCMCM app, by e-mail to affiliation@cmcm.lu, or by post to: CMCM – L-2971 Luxembourg.
The partner will then be entitled to the same benefits as the main member from the date of the marriage or civil partnership (PACS), at no additional cost.
